The street came out in me today. Yup. I'm talking full on, not taking sh*t from anyone, 16 year old me. The Kristina that nobody wants to mess with.
It all started when I was walking down the street to my Grandma's house lugging Baby Z's car seat in one hand and an umbrella in the other. I had parked about half a block away because...well...parking on Vancouver streets are at a premium. Anyways, as I was walking down the street in the pouring rain, I noticed three guys walking towards me. They were all well over 6 feet tall with bulky builds and looked like they were coming from high school {although I wasn't really looking at their faces}. As I got closer, it dawned on me that not one of them was going to move to let us pass.
Oh really?
Today was not the day to mess with me. I started walking faster and faster. As I approached the boys {obviously not men}, I walked directly into the one that wouldn't move an inch for me and body checked him. Bet he didn't see that one coming.
Then I told him to watch it.
I think all three of them were in such shock that they didn't say anything. And then my brother, who was walking ahead of me with Lil J, told me they didn't move for them either. Jerks.
Because when you're 16, you own the sidewalk.
I hope that I raise my children with enough common sense, gratitude and straight up manners so that they will never be one of those boys I encountered today. I can only hope.
The situation brought the tough Kristina out but didn't put a damper on my visit with Grandma. We had tons of fun and I think my Grandma was just happy to have the company.
What would you have done in my situation? Would you have been so bold?
go you! i hate it when kids think it's cool to be rude and disrespectful.i'm far more impressed with compassion and kindness. glad you didn't let those little turds ruin your day!
